Henry Hudson No one knows exactly when he was born, but it is believed to have been born in the late 1500, English explorer Henry Hudson made two unsuccessful sailing voyages in search of an ice-free passage to Asia. In 1609, he embarked on a third voyage funded by the Dutch East India Company that took him to the New York and the River that would be given his name. In his fourth voyage, Hudson came upon the body of water that would later be called the Hudson Bay. All his life, he loved finding new routes to Asia and after all this he led further explorers settle in North America. He found his passion for seafaring from fishermen and sailors, but also had a talent for navigation. Before finding routes to Asia, he also worked abroad ships. In 1607, the Muscovy company, an English company entrusted Hudson to find a northern route to Asia, but Hudson found himself and his crew battling icy conditions, but it wasn’t a total loss as Hudson reported numerous whales in the region, which opened up a new hunting territory. A main problem during his second voyage was thick ice. He made it to Novaya Zemlya, an archipelago in the Arctic Ocean to the north of Russia( he returned to England after failing his trip). In 1609, Hudson joined the Dutch East India Company as a commander. He later discovered a northern route to Asia by heading north of Russia. According to some historians he had heard of a way to the Pacific Ocean from North America from English explorer John Smith. Crossing the Atlantic Ocean, Henry and his crew encountered some of the local Native Americans and made some trades. Abroad Discovery ship, Hudson left England in 1610, made their way across Atlantic Ocean, but came to a dead end. They were trapped in the ice and had low supplies. They spent the winter there. By June 1611 conditions had improved enough for the ship to set sail once again. They didn’t sail a lot, until the ship sank. While he never found his way to Asia, Hudson is still widely remembered as a determined sea explorer.
